i love this sculpture by artist Kordian Lewandowski entitled “Game Over”. based of some of the imagery from his site, i’d guess it’s carved from styrofoam. regardless, it’s pretty awesome!

so i finished a new piece a couple weeks back and have been meaning to post pics – amazing how fast time moves by as you get older and have more responsibilities… anyway, this piece is called “Live, Laugh, Love & Ride” and was commissioned by the Pantry at Nike for a developer who is recovering from some pretty serious issues. a pretty cool gift from co-workers i must say.

the piece is 5′ x 2′ and made from 2 pair of custom Nike Soakers on a painted wood panel. the shoes themselves were created specially for him and had lots of details that related to both his family and his interests. since there were two pairs and i only used one pair of soles, i decided to cut some of the nubbins off the remaining pair and use them as details in the background to help tie the two together.

the quote and signatures were lasered on before the final color treatment – here’s a quick 20 video of that my friend shot off his iphone… i love how easy technology has become.
lastly, wanted to talk about the custom frame. my good friend Dave helped me with this cause he has all the fancy tools. so i wanted to emulate the cup-sole stitching that appears on this shoe so i had Dave router a line in the frame and then drill tiny little holes every 3/4 inch. then with one continuous piece of string i spent the next 7 hours hand stitching 14 feet of wood. i think it came out pretty awesome, but i will definitely think twice about doing that again… man that was a lot of stitching!

anyway, it was a lot of fun to make and i definitely learned some cool stuff along the way. i’m working on a new series of smaller pieces now… made one for my wife and future baby last week so i’ll get some pics of that and get it up soon. until next time – keep on creating!
pretty sweet piece by Charis Tsevis and Indyvisuals for their Design Walk 2010.
“…the final piece which consisted of 3 different sized square pieces and 58 varieties of color and size combinations. All this on a 6×2,5m canvas made of 120 columns and 50 rows of a 5×5 pixel grid.”

stumbled across this work this morning - really like the colors and the sort of destructed nature of this series. some more great work on his site. by the way, i think my mom had this model and the cassettes were Lionel Richie’s greatest hits and the soundtrack to Beverly Hills Cop… oh Axel..
